Postal Services St. Maarten NV re-launches Moneygram service

page1a238PHILIPSBURG--Postal Services St. Maarten NV (PSS) re-launched its Moneygram Services at the Post Office, "its rightful place," according to proud Managing Director Denicio Richardson, on Friday.

The resumption of the service was marked by a special launch event in the presence of Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams, Regional Manager of the Caribbean for Moneygram Steve Higgins and Moneygram's Vice President of Marketing & Sales for the Caribbean and South America George Zielinski.

Richardson said the re-start of the service is just one of many steps that PSS will take to ensure quality of service to its customers. He said the start of the relationship with Moneygram is a strategic one, with the service also available at the Simpson Bay branch. He went on to praise the team at PSS for its diligent work and promised the community that PSS will deliver, despite facing some challenges.

Higgins said Moneygram is "thrilled" about being in St. Maarten and congratulated Richardson on joining "the preferred global money transfer company," available in over 200 countries with over 220,000 locations, including every Caribbean nation. He said Moneygram had a commitment to providing a five-minute service to the people of St. Maarten. "That's all it will take. Every transaction will be in and out in five minutes. If you don't get that, talk to Denicio," he said.

Zielinski, a first time visitor to St. Maarten, praised the island for its "breathtaking views," impressive airport and great treatment from its people. He said service is the utmost priority for Moneygram. "In a business like ours, if you don't have service, you don't have anything. We are excited to be here," he said.

Wescot-Williams framed the importance of PSS into the context of building Country St. Maarten and its institutions. She said PSS and Moneygram play an important role in the development of the country. She urged the company to take pride in service, implement innovative approaches to stay on the "cutting edge" and praised personnel for their passion in executing their tasks.

Former head of the Post Office Wally Havertong served as master of ceremonies of the event inside the Post Office building in Philipsburg.

Having started at the postal service some 55 years ago, Havertong recalled the days of using money orders and the telegram. He also reminisced on what seems to be a fading practice these days: the writing of a letter, placing it in an envelope, placing a stamp on the envelope, taking the letter to the post office and dropping it in a box. "Postal services have come a long way," he said.

The Moneygram services at the Post Office will be offered from Monday through Friday during regular opening hours.
