DUTCH QUARTER--Police were called for assistance by Natasha Leon, residing on Madrid Drive, Lower Prince's Quarter, after her landlord removed the roof from her house Thursday.
Upon arrival, the patrol found a house with the roof off, the household goods wet and exposed, while several persons were having an argument.
Leon said she had built a house on land belonging to her landlord Alfredo Hensen, but was now living on the French side due to circumstances with her children.
She said she had not left the house unattended, as her boyfriend was presently staying in it. She her Hensen had told her he wanted her off of his property as soon as possible and had given her one month in which to have her belongings out of the house.
However, she said her sister had called her Thursday morning and told her the landlord was busy removing the roof from her house.
Hensen told the officers Leon had not paid him rent for more than six months and he wanted her off his property. He said Leon was a troublemaker who refused to pay rent and therefore he didn't want anymore dealings with her.
He said he had disconnected the electricity from the house first with the intentions of making the boyfriend leave, but this had never happened. He said he had next disconnected the electricity, and then proceeded to take the roof off the house.
Leon explained to the officers that when she found out that her boyfriend was not paying the rent, she had asked the landlord how much she owed and that she was willing to pay the outstanding amount. She said the landlord had told her he did not want her money, all he wanted was for her to leave his property.
The police officers intervened and asked the landlord to give Leon the time she needed to remove her household items from his property. Leon agreed to have her stuff removed, to avoid further problems, and the landlord said he would not confront her anymore.
