Divi Resort offers special
packages to cruise passengers

PHILIPSBURG--Divi Little Bay Resort is offering cruise passengers travelling on Carnival and other cruise lines an opportunity to experience the resort during their St. Maarten stop.

The package includes use of beach umbrellas and chairs, lunch, drinks and the taxi ride from Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise Facility via St. Maarten Taxi Services, said Financial Controller Michael Franklin, who is filling in for the general manager.

The taxi fare is included in the package and the resort pays the taxis US $1 per person transported to the resort. The packages are sold aboard the cruise ships.

The programme was developed by the resort's head office in North Carolina and the packages were brokered with the cruise lines through Universal Impressions based in Miami, Florida.

Packages are mostly sold for Wednesdays. The tailored packages started last year just before the start of the high season.

Asked if these day trips had generated timeshare buyers and return land-based visitors, Franklin said the results had been fairly good. However, the time visitors spend at the resort is quite limited and many are not willing to spend an hour on a timeshare presentation.

From a general marketing standpoint, the packages put Divi Little Bay Resort more in the market with a few hundred persons visiting the resort yearly, thus possibly being the first choice on people's minds if they think about returning to the island.
