Former Miss Statia Nadia Turner
competes for American Idol 2005

ST. EUSTATIUS--Former Statia Beauty Queen Nadia Turner (28) made the first cut in the fourth season of the popular American Idol show aired weekly on the US Fox television network.

Turner has successfully represented St. Eustatius in several regional pageants from 1993 through 2003. They included Miss Mermaid Antilles, Miss PJD-2 Caribbean Queen, Miss Jaycees Antigua, Miss Necta and Queen of Caribbean pageants.

Statians were glued to their television sets during the audition stage and proud when Nadia made the final cut of the 24 contestants, St. Eustatius Tourism Director Alida Francis stated in a release Thursday.

Born in Miami, Florida, Nadia is a daughter of Rosita Lopes of St. Eustatius and Granville Turner. She loves the stage, as her mother too was a former Miss Statia.

Whenever she is in Statia, Nadia never misses the opportunity to sing, dance or model at fundraising events. She also never misses the chance to join in the Carnival parade.

“As this competition unravels everyone will see how amazingly talented and versatile Nadia Turner is,” Francis stated in the release. The former Statia beauty queen commands a number of musical genres, including gospel, reggae, pop, rock, R&B, ballads and more, she added.

The people of Statia are appealing to their Caribbean neighbours to monitor the developments of American Idol and to join them in supporting Nadia by voting for her during the remainder of the season. To vote for her one can use Telcell cellular phones and call the number displayed at the bottom of the screen, each time following her performance. Voting for Nadia will be for two hours after the show.
