Murdered woman identified,
autopsy confirms brutality

St. Maarten--The autopsy has been concluded on the woman who was found brutally murdered in the Dawn Beach Hill area on Friday, but because it confirms the cruel nature of her death authorities have declined to comment on the pathologist’s findings.

St. Maarten Prosecutor Johan de Vrieze confirmed the identity of the deceased as Angelique Chauvire (30) on Sunday. She had been reported missing on Wednesday, May 24. An ad published in this newspaper stated that the deceased had worked at Orient Bay (Sexy Fruit Boutique) and authorities had discovered her car destroyed in French Cul-de-Sac. She reportedly was last seen in Grand Case on May 31, a week after she was reported missing.

She was found by a couple who were looking for bush to make a special tea on a property in the Dawn Beach Hill area around 11:00am Friday. Her death is the seventh murder for this year and is considered one of the most brutal ever committed on the island.

When the body was found there was clear evidence that the woman had been sexually assaulted in a most horrendous and perverted manner with the use of a piece of tree branch. It is believed that the murderer(s) also used a rock to smash parts of her face, the back of her head, her hands near the fingers and her feet.

It is also believed that the body had been in the bushes for at least two days before it was discovered.

De Vrieze said there were no witnesses for the moment, but police were continuing their investigation.
