Tropical wave causes
stormy conditions

PHILIPSBURG--A “strong early season tropical wave” doused the island with rain and heavy winds from late Monday night throughout Tuesday. This stormy weather, expected to continue today, uprooted several recently planted trees, blew away some billboards and caused some minor flooding.

Similar weather conditions are expected today, the Meteorological Service of Netherlands Antilles and Aruba stated in its forecast. The tropical wave moved rapidly into the local area Tuesday morning and will continue to move West-Northwestward near 25 miles per hour.

Continued street flooding and moments of strong gusts and rough seas are expected today. The weather is forecast to be partly to mostly cloudy with periods of showers and a risk of thunderstorms. Winds will be 12 to 20 miles per hour with occasional gusts of up to 36 miles per hour.

A small craft advisory that went into effect yesterday will remain in effect until further notice.
