Maria ends rumours
PHILIPSBURG--Democratic Party (DP) Councilwoman Maria Buncamper-Molanus put the record straight on Wednesday about her position in the red party, especially where it concerned the process to appoint a new Sector Director for Physical Planning and Management ROB.
“We have discussed and we have resolved whatever misunderstanding there may have been. And statements about resigning and joining other sides or other political parties I leave for the account of those who started them,” she stated, using her speaker’s time to state her case where it concerned the appointment of a new Sector Director for ROB.
She said she had questioned the Executive Council on this issue as part of her obligation. She said she had done so through communicating with her colleagues in the party. She admitted there had been some irritations on her part.
But this irritation was caused mostly because she had received the impression that her colleagues shrugged their shoulders at her questions. This, she said, didn’t help the situation. But, she added, “Show me a relationship that experiences no problems and I’ll show you a failed relationship.” She said that, more important, the party had demonstrated maturity.
About the e-mail that was leaked about the process to appoint a new ROB Sector Director, Buncamper-Molanus said she would remain professional. She said e-mails were for internal use and that was where they should remain.
About the involvement of her husband Claudius “Toontje” Buncamper, who was the other candidate for the position, but was not selected, she suggested that it should not matter if she posed questions about matters involving friends, family members or colleagues. “It is my duty to question government,” she said.
She said she had an agreement with her husband: “I will not tell him how to run Public Works and he won’t tell me how to do my job as an Island Council member. The questions I posed, the concerns I had, were of such nature that it didn’t matter whether my husband was involved or not. Trust me, he can take good care of himself.”
