Marlin applauds Mullet Bay
agreement, zoning plan soon
PHILIPSBURG/St. Maarten--The end of the legal battle between SunResorts and the Mullet Bay Apartment Association that has paved the way for cleanup and a new resort development in the area is applauded by Environmental Affairs and Property Management Commissioner Roy Marlin.
Speaking at Wednesday’s Executive Council press briefing, Marlin said this very strategic property could be utilised to build a resort “second to none in the Caribbean.” Expressing his happiness about the situation being resolved, he said all relevant government departments would work with SunResorts on its master plan.
Any development in the area will have to fit into government’s draft zoning plan regulating building heights, green areas and other infrastructure elements. The draft plan was formulated with the input of area stakeholders, including SunResorts, and is to be finalised by the Environmental Policy Department and sent to the island council for ratification.
The area is zoned primarily for hotel developments and includes the building of a secondary road behind Casino Royale connecting to The Towers at the Mullet Bay road.
