Dolphinarium project
reportedly scrapped

POINTE BLANCHE--The plot of land next to Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities will not house the controversial dolphinarium, as the project reportedly has been scrapped.

The reason for the project dying in the water, according to a well-placed reliable source, is that the Mexico-based company Atlantida was either unable or unwilling to comply with the strict criteria for opening and operating such a facility as set forth by the Central Government Environmental Policy Department.

The criteria included a cleanup of Great Bay where the dolphins were supposed to be housed in an open pen and reduction of noise interference so that the animals wouldn’t become stressed.

Local, regional and international animal rights, welfare and environmental groups vehemently protested against the project from the time news of it was released more than a year ago.
