Local fashion and beauty
magazine hits shelves
PHILIPSBURG--Move over She Caribbean magazine, regional women now have a new fashion and beauty magazine to savour.
The first issue of Caribelle, a locally produced magazine, is now available on supermarket shelves. The cover is graced with a stunning profile shot of St. Maarten’s contestant to the Miss Universe Pageant, Gisella Hilliman, and contains an array of crisp features on fashion to suit every taste. Articles include a profile of Hilliman speaking about her experiences in the international pageant, and a beauty makeover column. The first issue also features an article about sexual health, textured tresses and a profile of musician Elliot “Jr. Lion” Laurence and, of course, what looks like a palate-tempting recipe.
The magazine is produced by BlueOranje Design. Bevil Byam, from the production team said the magazine has been in the pipeline for quite a while. He told invited guests, who gathered in at the Philipsburg Cultural and Community Centre that putting the right team together had been one of his foremost challenges in getting the colourful and impressive publication off the ground.
“The pages of Caribelle are a reflection of ‘you’ the contemporary Caribbean woman,” he said in the publisher’s note. “The focus will be on beauty, fashion and lifestyle with powerful articles on women issues as they relate to you.”
“We can identify ourselves as a people in the magazine,” he told invited guests at Thursday’s launch, among them Constitutional Affairs Minister Roland Duncan.
The magazine costs NAf 5.50 or US $3 per copy and the public is being asked to support this home-made quarterly product. The next issue comes out in February.
