Businesses urged to paticipate
in new US passport promotion

PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) encourages restaurants, car rentals, activities and merchants on the Dutch side to participate in the US passport promotion by accepting St. Maarten Bucks as discounted cash.

With St. Maarten Bucks programme, SHTA aims to raise the quality of island visitors by offering value instead of price breaks. “St. Maarten Bucks are a great way for visitors to start experiencing the island, and an excellent way for us to put our guests in the right spending mood. The “Bucks” stop here, as the extra money spent stays on St. Maarten, supporting the local economy,” SHTA said.

St. Maarten Tourist Office, Economic Recovery Fund (ERF) Committee and St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) have partnered to develop and implement a passport promotion for US travellers.

The goal of this island wide programme is to encourage and reward US travellers who have renewed or applied for a passport and chosen to travel to St. Maarten. The St. Maarten Tourist Office will be contributing to 40 per cent of this promotion with the private sector contributing 60 per cent.

Visitors to St. Maarten will receive US $100 in St. Maarten Bucks when they register at participating hotels for a-five-night stay and show a new or renewed passport issued after December 15, 2006. St. Maarten Bucks can be used at participating restaurants, hotels, car rental agencies and retailers in Dutch St. Maarten from December 15 through December 31, 2007.

This promotion will be marketed through the travel trade in the US, St. Maarten American Marketing Association, electronic newsletters distributed by SHTA to over 2000 US based travel agents, a two-page spread Latitudes magazine sponsored by SHTA through a barter agreement with HCP, publishers of the

Experience Book, the Tourist Office Website: www.st-maarten.com, the SHTA consumer Website: www.visitsxm.com, as well as individual hotel Websites.

For additional information or to participate in the programme, contact Cherryl Williams at SHTA office at 542 0108.
