Head of Town foundation says most
businesses oppose ‘scratch card OPCs’


PHILIPSBURG/St. Maarten--The Head of Town Beautification Foundation has released the results of a survey, which was held on December 5 amongst businesses on Front Street, that show that of the 77 responses, 51 businesses strongly disapproved of the operation tactics of the “scratch card OPC sales persons.

The 51 business owners said that they “Strongly disapproved of the scratch card OPCs and said they hurt business and Philipsburg’s reputation.” The survey, which sought the opinion of the St. Maarten businesses, listed five possible choices on a scale of one to five, regarding the business operators’ opinion of the scratch card OPC sales persons.

The first choice was “Love them, lovely people, they are the best,” second was “Approve of them, they are good for business and the town,” third was “Do not care whether they are here or not, have no feelings,” the fourth was “Disapprove of them,” and the fifth and most popular choice was “Strongly disapprove, they hurt business and Philipsburg’s reputation.”

Fifteen businesses chose option four which was a clear disapproval, nine chose option three which said they had no feelings about the issue, two approved of them and none chose the first option.
