Carty says 2006 was
good year for UTS

PHILIPSBURG--United Telecommunications Services (UTS) wrapped up the year on a positive note with its Chippie service recording a fifteen per cent growth and its financial position improving.

UTS General Manager Eastern Caribbean Glen Carty said the company had made several strides this year and planned to continue on the same path next year. “2006 was a good year for UTS; it was better than 2005,” Carty said. “In 2005 the company was able to contribute to positive net results and the figures will be even better this year.”

In addition to the introduction of several new products and services in St. Maarten, including the Blackberry and Tilin phone cards (already available in Curaçao), Carty said there had been no “outages” in the Chippie service in 2006 and the company’s Internet service had improved significantly.

Plans for 2007 include expanding the Chippie service to St. Barths and improving on its existing products. Carty said that while UTS had focussed in the past on introducing new products and expanding, its aim next year would be to listen to its clients. He said Chippie had climbed to some 25,000 clients this year, a 15 per cent increase.

Carty thanked UTS’ customers and staff for their contributions over the past year and said he looked forward to their continued support in coming years.

He said too that UTS would continue to upgrade its services and improve its product, and wished everyone a happy 2007.
