National Day of
Prayer Sunday

PHILIPSBURG--The third annual National Day of Prayer with the theme “Facing the Future with God,” will be held this year at Clem Labega Square on Sunday, January 14, starting at 4:30pm.

Commissioner of Culture Louie Laveist held a press conference on Monday at the Government Administration Building in which some of the organisers from different churches were invited to give details of the planned day of prayer.

According to Bishop Michael Greenaway, Acting President of St. Maarten/St. Maarten United Ministerial Foundation (SMUMF), the theme was chosen in light of the island’s transition towards autonomy. “We need to seek God’s guidance in further decision-making and for His protection on the island as we plot a course as a new nation.”

The event is being coordinated as a collaborative effort between SMUMF and the St. Maarten Christian Council. It is described as crossing religious and social boundaries to implore God’s favour and mercy on St. Maarten/St. Martin and to act as a call for surrender to the residents.

A cross section of government dignitaries and church leaders will pray and bring words of encouragement during the service. There will be special musical performances and interpretive dances.

For more information or an interview, interested persons can contact Greenaway at 520-1833.
