Union lauds pension,
urges workers to join
PHILIPSBURG--Windward Islands Civil Servants Union (WICSU) President William Reed has lauded the pension plan being offered by Henderson Insurances as a solid one that workers who may be without income possibilities during their retirement years should consider.
Some 11 WICSU members who work at Windward Islands Airways Winair used the money they had received from an arbitration fund to invest in a pension plan with Henderson. On reaching the age of retirement, the employees will receive monthly installments.
The workers, via representatives, were given their policies during a brief ceremony at the insurance company on Monday. “The company wanted to officially hand over the policy to all the employees,” said Reed. “The workers are happy with it because it’s not everyone who has an old age pension from SVB (Social Insurance Bank).
“Members of the public who don’t have a pension scheme can approach Henderson Insurances. It’s important for people to have extra income so that in their latter days they can still have a comfortable and normal way of life. And they can have this through the monies they invest in a pension scheme. I think more workers in St. Maarten should look into this and try to join.”
