Tentative schedule for
Carnival 2007 released
PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) has released a tentative Carnival schedule. St. Maarten’s 38th annual Carnival celebrations will start on Saturday, April 14, with a Unity Jump-up from French St. Martin to Dutch St. Maarten.
Several shows are being planned to display the cultural richness of the island, with additional international concerts to add to the diversity of the cultural experience. The events following the Unity Jump-up will be the Junior, Teen and Senior Carnival Queen Pageant. Then SCDF will host the official Dutch side Opening Jump-up on Saturday, April 21.
The Junior Calypso and Road March competitions will be held on Sunday, April 22, and the Senior Calypso Competition will be held Monday, April 23. Tuesday, April 24, will be the Youth Extravaganza and Wednesday, April 25, the Senior Road March competition. The first international concert for Carnival will be held Thursday, April 26, followed by a local concert on Friday, April 27, and the J’ouvert Jump-up on Saturday, April 28.
There will be another international concert on the night of Saturday, April 28, and another concert on Sunday, April 29. The Grand Carnival Parade will be held on Monday, April 30, and the Labour Day Carnival Parade will be held on Tuesday, May 1.
The next international concerts will be held Wednesday, May 2, and Thursday, May 3. A local concert will be held on Friday, May 4, and Carnival will officially come to an end on Saturday, May 5.
