Democratic Labour Party
to contest elections
PHILIPSBURG--The Democratic Labour Party of St. Maarten (DLP) will be contending during the April 20 Island Council elections, says Johan van Heyningen, the number one candidate on the slate.
“DLP is formed to give St. Maarteners an alternative for them to participate in removing inadequate Governance that has not met the people’s need, and to be part of a new government that would listen, care and understand the needs and wants of the people,” is stated on the party’s
Website www.dlpofsx.org .
DLP’s official launch will be on March 1, which is postulation date for all parties that want to contend in the April 20 elections. Other members on the DLP slate are Mitchel van Heyningen, Olivier Arrindell and Sjaoel Richardson.
Van Heyningen said that on March 1, one or two other candidates on the DLP slate would be presented. “We are a totally independent party with allegiance to the people, and the people only. To name one of our policies, DLP will not allow itself to become hostage to the demands of special interests,” the party stated on its Website.
