Festival Village project
shifts into high gear

PHILIPSBURG--Kurt Ruan of ROB in the Public Works Department announced Thursday that the construction work being done to create the new “Festival Village” replacing the former Carnival Village was progressing smoothly.

Ruan took reporters on a tour of the facility, which is already completely surrounded by a concrete fence. Two ticket booths, each with three windows, are being constructed at the entrance to the now-much-larger village and the brickwork in the centre of the village is more than two-thirds complete.

Ruan explained that the grounds of the village had been raised by nearly five feet and a drainage system had been put in place to prevent water settlement. There are 68 concrete booths with metal roofs in the final stage of construction and another 12 booths will be built after Carnival.

The brand new state-of-the-art festival stage will be constructed during the next four weeks, as pile driving for it has already begun. Ruan said the road outside the Festival Village would be completed in time for the start of Carnival and the new facility allowed for shade from the sun and shelter from rain outside the booths.
