Carnival Season
officially open
PHILIPSBURG--The Festival Village was officially opened for the 2007 Carnival season on Saturday night, April 21.
The annual opening Carnival jump up started at John Cooper/Jose Lake Sr. Ballpark at 8:00pm and ended at the Festival Village on Pond Island around minutes to 11:00pm.
When the revellers arrived at the village, Lt. Governor of the Island Territory of St. Maarten Franklyn Richards, accompanied by St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) President Fabiana Arnell, 2007 Senior Carnival Queen Shanyra Richardson and 2007 Teen Carnival Queen Aisha Mathew, officially opened the gates with the traditional key to the village.
Four bands led the revellers to the Festival Village: No Limit Band, 4M Band, Respek Band and Jump-Up Stars. The revellers were in full force as they made their way to the village. At the village, Control Band entertained the crowd for the remainder of the evening.
