Caribbean Cruises presents award
to St. Maarten 12 Meter Challenge

POINTE BLANCHE--St. Maarten 12 Meter Challenge was awarded the Princess Cruises 2006-2007 Low Volume Tour of the Season award for the ninth consecutive time.

Captain Giuseppi Romano of cruise vessel Caribbean Princess presented a plaque to Colin Percy, owner of St. Maarten 12 Meter Challenge. Also attending the ceremony on board the ship were Bradey Jenkins, David Ronald Jeffers and Patricia Davis, all crewmembers of the St. Maarten company.

The ship’s tour manager James Eaton said that during each season, passengers of Princess Cruises are given the opportunity to give their opinions on the different shore excursions being offered to them at the various ports of call.

Based on these opinions, the cruise line presents awards for High and Low Volume Tours of the Season Award. Eaton said the low volume award is given for tours that cater to up to 36 passengers.

Percy thanked the captain on behalf of his company and crewmembers, saying, “This is a tremendous boost to our morale.”

After the presentation of the award, he told The Daily Herald, “We are a small company offering visitors to St. Maarten the opportunity to participate as a working crew member in a race aboard an Americas Cup race boat. Many years ago, the cruise ships found out about us and liked what we were doing, as there was nobody else in the world offering this type of excursion. We have worked hard to provide an excellent product and this has been recognised by the cruise lines.”

More about the award and St. Maarten 12 Meter Challenge will be published in next week’s WEEKender.
