WIB and UTS introduce
‘Easy Charge’ campaign
PHILIPSBURG--Windward Island Bank (WIB) in collaboration with United Telecommunications Services (UTS) launched their “Easy Charge” campaign, where WIB and Chippie customers can send money from their WIB account directly to their or another person’s Chippie phone by simply sending an SMS.
According to WIB Marketing Manager Rolando Tobias, the rather straight forward service works by firstly registering on the WIB ATM machine for a PIN code, which is necessary to send the recharge request. To do this the WIB account holder chooses, on the ATM machine, the phone recharge feature from the main option screen, where customers will then have to choose the SMS registration option.
There they will have to select their cell phone service provider, which can only be UTS, and enter their cell phone number. The ATM machine will thereafter give a registration receipt and a message will be sent to the customer’s UTS phone confirming his/her registration and stating the PIN code.
Once the customers have their PIN code, they can recharge their phone by sending an SMS to 1111 typing in RC or recharge followed by a space, their four-digit PIN code, another space and the amount they would like to send.
To recharge an account of another person the customer would simply have to repeat the same steps, however, including a space after the amount to be sent and the phone number of the other person. Instantly the recipient will receive a message stating that his/her phone has been recharged. The minimum amount that can be sent is NAf 10.
WIB Managing Director Jan Beaujon said in the press conference that more and more the company has been relying on communication and technology offered, therefore through this joint effort of WIB and UTS, they can observe what all can be done to enhance a service or product to be able to service their customers. He said he viewed the campaign as something new and was looking forward to the great use of the product by both WIB and UTS customers.
UTS Eastern Caribbean General Manager Glen Carty said that technology and their customers are constantly changing, customers are becoming more demanding and seeking more convenience where they are tired of standing in lines, therefore he said the company that will survive and grow in such a market will be the companies that stay ahead with the technology. In his opinion, he said UTS and WIB have proven to do this.
He thanked WIB for its much needed contribution to the campaign and said that he hoped once again that this would be another successful innovative launch from UTS and Chippie that their customers will be happy with.
UTS Marketing Manager Christina Sprock added that this new campaign is a follow-up of Chippie’s “Chip it up” promotion. She said in light of the new campaign, UTS will be raffling 10 cell phones. On an information leaflet distributed by WIB about the “Easy Charge” promotion, a lottery number can be found for a chance to win a new phone. The winner will be announced in the local newspapers on June 22.
