Commissioner may have committed
fraud in human trafficking incident
PHILIPSBURG--Reliable reports reaching The Daily Herald indicate that Chief Immigration Officer Ademar Doran is currently in Curaçao in connection with the ongoing investigations into the alleged involvement of a colleague commissioner in human trafficking.
Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein maintained his position of last week, stating only, “Based on allegations made by a man who was detained in connection with alleged human trafficking regarding the involvement of a police officer, the matter has been sent to the Federal Detectives who are charged with investigating civil servants.”
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that the charge against the police commissioner involves his fraudulently signing certain permits which he was not authorised to sign.
The allegations are linked to an incident that reportedly occurred out at sea earlier this year when the Coast Guard intercepted a yacht with a wealthy American national and two young women on board.
They were brought to shore and it is alleged that police had cause to visit the businessman’s villa, where they found a substantial amount of cash. He later proved that he had withdrawn the money legally from his credit card and was released.
The two girls were held and handed over to Immigration, but the following day they managed to produce documents that reportedly were delivered by the Chinese man G.Y. who is currently detained and who reportedly squealed on the police commissioner.
It is alleged that G.Y. received from the police commissioner the documents for the girls for whom he had reportedly arranged the visit to the island and the trip aboard the American businessman’s yacht.
Several attempts have been made by this newspaper to contact Police Chief Commissioner Derrick Holiday or other members of the police management staff for comments on the investigation, but to no avail.
Stein said he would neither comment on the allegations nor confirm or deny them, as the matter was “too sensitive to discuss at this stage.”
