Mussington: ‘dramatic rise in
scholarships awarded students’

MARIGOT--The number of high school students in St. Martin receiving university level scholarships has risen dramatically in the past three years, according to the Regional Council of Guadeloupe records, Regional Councillor Louis Mussington disclosed this week.

“Since my term in office from 1998 to the present, St. Martin students have received an average of 29 scholarships per year for university and college-level studies,” Mussington noted in a press release. “It is time for my predecessor Louis Fleming to tell the St. Martin people how many scholarships he delivered over the 15 years that he sat in the Regional and General Councils.”

He said he was very satisfied with the number of students who are benefiting from the Regional Council scholarship fund. “Many of our students, more than ever before in such a short time, are in universities in St. Martin, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean on regional scholarships,” he explained.

In May of this year, the Regional Councillor launched the one-year Bachelor’s Degree programme in public administration with the universities of Guadeloupe and Strasbourg. Already 34 students have enrolled from St. Martin and St. Barths.

Mussington, a teacher by profession, is the running mate of Regional Council president Victorin Lurel who is contesting this weekend’s legislative elections.
