Loor will be heard today
by Judge of Instruction
PHILIPSBURG--The Prosecutor’s Office has reported that detained Police Commissioner Marcel Loor will be heard by the Judge of Instruction at the Court of First Instance today, Friday.
Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein, who had said Loor was expected to appear before the Judge on Thursday, stated that the Prosecutor’s Office still had until 11:00am Friday before Loor’s first eight-day pre-detention expired.
Today Loor will learn whether the Judge agrees to the additional charge of money laundering which the Prosecutor’s Office says it will seek to add to the list of charges which includes forgery and accepting bribes.
Loor was arrested on June 19 at his St. John’s Estate home, after an investigation led by Federal Detectives pointed to his involvement in fraudulent activities and acceptance of bribes.
He was named by G.Y., who is currently detained on human trafficking charges, but there has been no clear indication as to what G.Y. has accused Loor of doing.
Loor is represented by attorney-at-law Richard Gibson Jr. who defended his client in court last week and secured a delay of Loor’s transfer to Curaçao’s Bon Futuro Prison, as planned by the Prosecutor’s Office.
However, there are unconfirmed reports that Loor will appeal that court decision because it suggests that he would have to go to the Bon Futuro Prison in Curaçao after 26 days, which will come at the end of his second eight-day pre-detention if the Judge grants it today.
The investigators are also probing allegations that Loor owned several properties on the island, but Stein said no property has been seized for the moment. The items seized to date include a large sum of money on Loor’s bank account, computers from his home and office, and documents from both locations, as well as documents of his offshore companies.
