Standard Trust clients worried
about seizure of company files

PHILIPSBURG--Several clients of Standard Trust Company are concerned about what effect the recent seizure by police of computers and documents from the company will have on the service they have been getting from the company.

The computers and documents were seized recently by Federal Detectives investigating Police Commissioner Marcel Loor, who is accused of forgery and accepting bribes. Loor was a client of Standard Trust.

The concerned clients, who wish to remain anonymous, said they had tried without success to get information from management of Standard Trust about the company’s current position in the wake of the recent search and seizure exercise.

The Daily Herald also tried to contact the company for information, but no Standard Trust Company representatives were available for comment on the allegations up to press time.

According to reports, the company provides specific services for business persons pertaining to the payment of taxes and the incorporating of businesses on other islands.

Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein explained that there had been one case of seizure of documents and the removal of a computer that was linked to the investigation into allegations that Loor, who is currently detained at the Pointe Blanche prison, had committed fraud and accepted bribes.

He said the easiest thing for anyone affected by the seizure to do was to visit the Prosecutor’s Office and file a complaint. If there is reasonable cause to release their documents, the documents will be released.

He said another option available to anyone who had been affected would be to seek the return of the documents via the Court if they believed that their interests were being jeopardised in any way as a result of the investigation.
