Marlin: ‘Air-Fin can start
without business licence’

PHILIPSBURG--A business licence is a formality and if Air-Fin finishes its water plant before the licence is issued, Finance Commissioner Roy Marlin said he would definitely allow the company to conduct operation taking general interest into consideration.

A business licence is a formality that can be signed in a day or two, Marlin said. He reacted on statements of National Alliance Councilman George Pantophlet who questioned whether Air-Fin should be allowed to start constructing without the company having its business licence.

Pantophlet in addition asked whether the Island Council could receive the final contract signed with Air-Fin, as the contract discussed in the Island Council was a 2005 draft.

“I don’t think that this is an issue,” Marlin said. He explained that the reason the Executive Council went to the Island Council with the Air-Fin contract is because, in accordance with the Island Regulation, when entering an agreement longer than three years, approval of the Island Council is needed.

“The Executive Council did not go to the Island Council to approve a contract, but to approve the terms within which we entered an agreement.”

To Marlin, it is most natural that changes would have been made in the existing contract compared to the contract sent to the Island Council.
