Gumbs’ appointment
as coordinator ratified
PHILIPSBURG--The decision to appoint former member of Parliament and state secretary Marcel Gumbs as the coordinator between Dutch St. Maarten and French St. Martin has been ratified, making the appointment official.
Constitutional Affairs Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams said during Wednesday’s Executive Council press briefing that Gumbs’ appointment entailed that for two full days per week he would be dealing with matters pertaining to French St. Martin and Dutch St. Maarten.
According to the Commissioner, there are many issues to be dealt with and the appointed coordinator will be preparing a plan of action indicating what the areas of priority are. The Executive Council will review the plan of action and make amendments if necessary.
Gumbs had queried in the media last week what had happened to the decision to appoint him. The Executive Council had made its decision in June, but Gumbs still, more than a month later, hadn’t received the official document of his appointment.
Wescot-Williams had responded that the paperwork was stuck somewhere in the civil service apparatus.
