Marlin supports filming of Dutch soap series in St. Maarten

THE HAGUE--Commissioner of Tourism Roy Marlin supports the proposed filming of a Dutch soap series in St. Maarten. He met with actress Chris Comvalius (Dorothea Granstaan from the Dutch soap series “Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden”) at the Antillean House in The Hague on Thursday.

Deputy Plenipotentiary Minister Mavis Brooks-Salmon welcomed the Commissioner and the actress, an Antillean House press release issued on Thursday stated.

The reason for Comvaluis’ visit was to discuss the possibility to film some scenes for the soap series in St. Maarten. Comvalius, who took the initiative to discuss the filming possibilities, lived for several years in St. Maarten and is very familiar with the local culture.

Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden is the most popular soap series in the Netherlands. Approximately 1 to 1.5 million people watch it every day making it the programme with the highest viewer ratings in the Netherlands. The company Endemol produces the soap series and it’s broadcasted by television channel RTL.

Marlin reacted very enthusiastically on the initiative and promised to give his full cooperation, the press release stated. “According to Marlin, this is an excellent opportunity to present St. Maarten to the Dutch tourism sector. Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden offers several possibilities for tourism,” he said.

A follow-up meeting with producer Gerd-Jan van Dalen is scheduled to take place next week in the Netherlands.
