Loor to go on trial
in mid-September

PHILIPSBURG--A tentative date in mid-September has been set for the trial of detained Police Commissioner Marcel Loor, who was arrested by a team of Federal Detectives at his St. John’s Estate home shortly before 7:00am on Tuesday, June 19.

Loor, a former Chief Immigration Officer, has been arrested on charges of forgery and accepting bribes that will form the basis of the trial, although authorities have not yet finalised the charges against him.

Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein confirmed Tuesday that Loor had been interrogated again by Federal Detectives on Monday in connection with the case.

Two businessmen were detained briefly and questioned recently about their involvement with Loor, but no other arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Stein said the final decision on what specific charges would be filed against Loor was still to be made. He said such a decision was usually made by the Prosecutor once the investigation was completed and it had been decided what could be proven in a court of law.
