Construction worker
falls from second floor

PELICAN--A construction worker fell from the second floor of one of the structures in the new complex of Pelican Beach Resort on Wednesday. He is in the hospital with two fractured ankles.

Police spokesman Chief Inspector Johan “Janchi” Leonard said Sector ROB Inspectors had visited the construction site since the incident to assess the level of safety being practised.

He said there was no indication yet as to whether the contractors were complying with safety requirements or the fall had resulted from negligence. Leonard said the victim had been identified as D.E. (27) of Venezuela.

D.E. was reportedly working on the outside scaffolding of the building when he fell from the second floor. He was transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) by ambulance.
