Loor should receive his
official summons today

PHILIPSBURG--Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein said Sunday that detained Police Commissioner Marcel Loor would receive his official summons today, Monday. It will disclose the exact charges to which he will have to answer in the Court of First Instance on September 19.

Stein said the standard procedure was being followed and Loor had the right to refuse the summons, or he could accept it and sign the time and date of receipt. This is necessary, for the judge hearing the matter against him to know whether the summons was delivered on time.

Loor has been detained at the Pointe Blanche prison since June 19 under suspicion of accepting bribes and forging documents while he held the office of Chief Immigration Officer in St. Maarten.

There have been widespread speculations since his arrest about his alleged wrongdoings, which include reports that he organised private armed security services for wealthy businessmen using Voluntary Corps VKS officers whom he allegedly provided with unlicensed weapons to do the job.

Although it has been reported that he will have to answer to several charges, no details of the exact findings of the Federal Investigators have been released to the general public so far. However, it is widely believed that several businessmen will be called to testify in the matter.

No report has been forthcoming from the defence as to their strategy or any concerns they may have before the highly publicised case is tried in open court.
