Loor’s trial
starts today

PHILIPSBURG--Former chief immigration officer Police Commissioner Marcel Loor will stand trial today, Wednesday, September 19, to answer some seven charges, amongst which are forgery and accepting bribes.

However, the Prosecution is intent on monitoring the developments in the Court of First Instance today, as it believes Loor’s defence attorney(s) will ask for an adjournment, citing the need for more time to review files and possibly hear witnesses.

Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein told The Daily Herald Tuesday in an invited comment that the court hearing today probably would deal primarily with the defence hearing witnesses and determining whether those witnesses would be heard by the Magistrate.

Stein said there had been no changes to the charges since the official summons was handed to Loor about 10 days ago, but it was still possible for additional charges to be brought against him, based on the outcome of today’s hearing.

Loor has been detained since June 19.
