HIV/AIDS workshop
series September 25- 28
PHILIPSBURG--The HIV/AIDS Management Team, in collaboration with the HIV/AIDS Policy Development Workgroup, is hosting a series of one day workshops themed “Behaviour Change Communication Procedures” for primary schools as well as the management of primary and secondary schools.
The series start on Tuesday, September 25, and will conclude on Friday, September 28, at Carl’s Unique Inn Conference Centre from 8:30am to 3:00pm. A selected number of teachers and staff members from each school board will attend the workshops on their scheduled date.
The workshops will be facilitated by Trinidad-based Behaviour Change Communication Specialist Salorne Mc Donald.
The objectives of the workshops are to sensitize educators about the importance of their roles in the development process of HIV/AIDS education policy for St. Maarten; to engage participants in focussed prevention strategies based on their behaviour change communication approach of choice and to equip a group of educators with the knowledge about HIV/AIDS and its development in St. Maarten, so that they in turn can pass this information on to their colleagues in smaller settings at the various schools.
Other objectives are to instruct participants in the construction of material that make interactive simulations stronger learning experiences for students.
Additional details can be obtained from HIV/AIDS Educational Policy Workgroup Coordinator at the Department of Education Glenderlin Davis-Holiday and HIV/AIDS Programme Manager at Sector Health Care Affairs Suzette Moses-Burton.
