Alliance to hold info sessions
on draft constitution this week


~ Public lecture Saturday ~

PHILIPSBURG--The National Alliance (NA) has organised two information sessions and a public lecture on the draft constitution for Country St. Maarten starting Thursday.

The first session is in Hope Estate Senior Citizens Recreational Centre with a presentation by Surinamese Attorney Sam Polanen at 3:00pm. The visiting attorney will cover what is a constitution, the purpose and function of a constitution, importance of a constitution and general observations on the draft constitution.

His presentation will be followed by St. Maarten attorney Reynold Groeneveldt, who will deal with Chapters I, II, and III of the island’s draft constitution.

Friday’s information session, set to the same venue and time, will be facilitated by attorney Ralph Richardson. He will deal with Chapters IV, V, and VI of the draft constitution. Following this, the three experts will be available for questions from workshop attendees.

Space for the workshop is limited and interested persons can contact NA President Dexter Doncher at 520-6360 or Event Coordinator Edgar Lynch at 580-8449 to register.

Rounding off the information sessions is a public lecture Saturday at 7:00pm in Passagraham Hotel Conference Room, Front Street. The two attorneys will discuss the draft constitution. Polanen will offer some backgrounds on Suriname’s experiences with the country’s two constitutions and offer some general remarks on the St. Maarten’s constitution.

The party encourages the general public to attend the information sessions at learn more about the constitutional process. “As a party, the National Alliance has always emphasised that the people of St. Maarten must be involved in shaping their destiny,” according to a party press release.
