Trial of Marcel Loor’s
girlfriend postponed

PHILIPSBURG--The trial of Police Commissioner Marcel Loor’s girlfriend C.C. (35), scheduled to start Wednesday, has been postponed until April 16.

This had to do with the fact that there was a change in C.C.’s legal counsel at the last moment. Richard Gibson Jr., who had also been Loor’s legal representative during his trial, handed over C.C.’s defence to his colleague Ralph Richardson.

Richardson told the Court on Wednesday that he had not had enough time to prepare his defence. He therefore requested a postponement of the handling of the case, which the Court granted.

C.C., a former employee of the Coast Guard of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, will be facing charges of fraud, forgery and money laundering.

Loor was sentenced last year to four years in prison for having committed forgery, bribery, tax evasion and money laundering. The Court also ordered him to pay a fine of NAf. 600,000 and NAf. 191,254 in damages to the Coast Guard.

In a separate case, Peter “Gordon” Yee (49) of Trinidad, whose confession that he had paid Loor US $2,000 to sign re-entry permits for two Colombian women led to the Loor’s arrest, also stood trial on Wednesday.

Yee was sentenced by the Court to 180 days in prison, 142 days of which were suspended.
