Supermarket owners fined
for undocumented workers

COLE BAY/PHILIPSBURG--Three supermarket owners in Cole Bay were fined about 30,000 guilders Wednesday for employing undocumented workers, the police reported last night.

Police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson told The Daily Herald a total of eight undocumented persons had been from Le Grande Marché, Food Delight and Honey Foods supermarkets when Immigration and police “Quick Response” officers conducted a control exercise and found that the workers did not have valid work or residence documents.

Another Immigration control conducted in St. Peters Tuesday night netted 10 undocumented persons, Henson said.

These persons will be held in police custody until arrangements can be made for their repatriation. “We will hold them until they can be sent back to their homes,” Henson said.

The full listing of the detained persons’ nationalities was not available last night.
