“Women Power” tonight with
Allison Hinds and El La Cruz

~Mr. Lover, Lover Shaggy to close off 28th Annual Heineken Regatta Sunday~

MAHO--The renowned Soca Queen Allison Hinds will be bringing in some “Thunder” from Barbados and will be lighting up the stage during her performance tonight at the 28th Annual Heineken Regatta celebration on the Marigot Water Front.

Hinds during a press conference yesterday evening assured St. Maarten that she will be giving only her best during her performance and will ensure the audience has a great time, especially all females as they celebrate International Women’s Day today.

The two main acts tonight will be “Tizzy” of El La Cruz (Little Antigua Crew) who will be uplifting women and will be representing the Caribbean to the fullest with their performances.

Hinds said during the conference that it is up to them as female Soca artiste to rise above the scrutiny placed on them and present women of sophistication .

Closing off the 28th Heineken Regatta celebration on Sunday night will be one of reggae’s most potent forces to be reckoned with “Mr. Lover, Lover” Shaggy.

Shaggy said he will be carrying the Jamaican flag high as he represents his fellow Jamaicans all over the world during the same press conference held in Maho Sonesta Pavillion Conference Room.

He urged all to support their people who will be performing during the weekend as it not easy for Caribbean music to be recognised in the competitive music industry.

Shaggy who is currently busy producing the official mascot song for the upcoming UFA (European Football Association) Championship for Nations Cup this summer in Austria and Switzerland said his touring had suffered over the last five years as he was placed in an awkward dilemma with his previous record label. Since his move to another label, he was able to produce hits like “Church Heathen” and “Bonafide Girl” which his many fans will flock to Kim Shah Beach to hear on Sunday night.

Reflecting on International Women’s Day, Shaggy mentioned that his hit track “Strength of a Woman” one of his favourites on his previous “Lucky Day” album focused on looking at women in a special light.

Introducing himself and his act during the press conference was guitar player local born Jacob from the Netherlands-based rock band Intwine. Intwine was one of the main acts at the festivities on the Great Bay Promenade last night. Jacob said by mixing it up for the regatta the band intends to cross over genre with a blend of Rock, Acoustic, Reggae, Latin, Soca and even some Zouk.

St. Maarten will surely be painted in green this weekend as locals and visitors absorb the Heineken festivities.
