Romanians held, US$100,000
seized in ATM fraud probe
PHILIPSBURG--Police arrested another two men Monday for their suspected involvement in stealing from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) that had landed one Romanian man in police detention early Sunday.
Police found US $105,000 and 3,000 euros in the hotel room the suspects had rented in French St. Martin, thanks to the assistance of French Gendarmes, the police reported Tuesday.
Both men, V.D.B. and V.C.S., are also from Romania.
Police said the suspects had confessed that they had been involved in “numerous” ATM scams on the Dutch side of the island.
The money was confiscated and the investigations are continuing.
