St. Maarten to pursue
the European market
PHILIPSBURG--The intention is for St. Maarten to employ a public relations (PR) and marketing firm in the Netherlands. “We are going to pursue that market like other islands in the region,” Tourism Commissioner Roy Marlin said on Wednesday.
He was in the Netherlands recently, after attending a tourism bourse in Germany, to make the first contacts.
Once the marketing and PR firm gets going, the intention is to prepare packages with hoteliers in St. Maarten and increase the number of passengers from Europe to St. Maarten, Marlin said.
For example, he said, the European and South American markets can support the local hotels in the summer months when the American tourists tend to travel less.
KLM already flies twice a week and Arkefly once a week from the Netherlands to St. Maarten.
