Con man snatches money
from shoppers in parking lot
BUSH ROAD--If a well-dressed, dark-skinned man who speaks with accented English approaches you in the parking lot of Le Grand Marché, beware: the man might be trying to snatch your money!
Shoppers at Bush Road plaza, which houses Le Grand Marché, a Windward Islands Bank outlet, a video store and restaurants, reported Thursday that a man had stolen their valuables, or tried to, by convincing them that he knew them and then snatching their property when he got close enough. Reports have surfaced that the con man, who might have an accomplice, according to one report, had taken in three victims and almost a fourth on Thursday morning.
According to victims’ reports, the con man tries to get his targets to lower their guard and then reaches for their purses, bags and wallets. The Daily Herald understands that the targets so far had all recently left the WIB ATM or outlet in the plaza and were driving cars.
One report reaching this newspaper said that when the police started bearing down on one suspect Thursday, he “took off” by running across the street and past Cost-U-Less in the Cul de Sac area.
The police could not be reached for an official comment on the matter Thursday, but the victims made separate reports about the incident to this newspaper.
