Student’s eye injured
in attack near school

EBENEZER--A young man was seriously injured in the eye Thursday during a violent, reportedly mismatched fight outside the St. Maarten Academy PSVE campus, police said Sunday.

The youth reportedly was one of six students believed to be from another school who had attacked a PSVE student, but the motive for the attack was not clear, police said.

A police patrol dispatched to Ebenezer did not arrive in time to stop the targeted student, identified only as R.C., from striking his attacker C.K.H. in the face with an empty beer bottle. C.K.H. was left with one of his eyes “severely injured” and was taken to St. Maarten Medical Center for treatment to the injured eye.

When the police arrived at the school R.C. had already left the scene. However, according to the police, he showed up at the Police’s Juvenile Department with his father shortly afterward and was arrested and held for questioning.

He was later released into the custody of his parents.

There was no indication of C.K.H.’s condition up to press time Sunday.
