Economic Outlook
launch Thursday
BELAIR--The 2008 Economic Outlook will be launched during the State of the Economy Address by Commissioner Maria Buncamper-Molanus in Belair Community Centre Thursday from 7:30 to 10:00pm. Guest Speaker is Central Bank President Emsley Tromp, who will speak on “Developmental Challenges in a Small Economy.”
Prepared by the Department of Economic Policy and Research (DEPR), the booklet, the third of its kind, has economic statistics and other relevant information pertaining to St. Maarten. It provides a comprehensive overview of the various sectors, such as Constitutional Developments, macro-economic developments, international and regional developments and their impact on the island, sector developments, and labour market developments.
The booklet also provides readers with an understanding of government’s economic strategic approach. It is not limited to outside investors, but is also available to the general public on the island
“The book serves as an informative guide for people who want to know more about the St. Maarten economy,” said DEPR Head Lucy Gibbs.
She continued: “People want to know the specific details as they relate to the various sectors of the economy. The information also helps in identifying other factors of the economy that are doing well, and for people to enter such markets.”
