Drug-smuggling suspects from
Curaçao could be brought here
PHILIPSBURG/WILLEMSTAD--The five men arrested in Curaçao Tuesday for suspected involvement in smuggling drugs to St. Maarten might be brought here to stand trial if investigations pan out, the Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.
Windward Islands Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein said the suspects, who were all cargo company employees like the two men arrested here (one of whom was C.D., not C.B. as incorrectly stated yesterday), could be sent to St. Maarten as the investigation progressed. “We’ll see, depending on what the investigation shows,” Stein told The Daily Herald.
Seven men were arrested as authorities here and in Curaçao cracked down on suspected drug smugglers they believe were involved in illegally transporting drugs from Colombia to St. Maarten via Curaçao.
No drugs were found here or in Curaçao when police, Kingdom Detective Cooperation Team RST and Customs officers raided homes in Beacon Hill and businesses at the airport, although authorities confiscated computer files and administrative documents for the investigation.
