Carnival Season
officially opens
PHILIPSBURG--Carnival revellers flocked to the Festival Village as the 2008 Carnival Season was officially opened with a jump-up last night.
Entyce Band, 4M Band, Jump-up Stars and No Limit Band led the fairly large and definitely enthusiastic crowd from John Cooper/Jose Lake Sr. Ball Field to the Festival Village.
On arriving at the village Lt. Governor Franklyn Richards, St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation President Fabiana Arnell, this year’s Carnival Teen Queen Cindy-Lee Doran and Senior Queen Shaneka Sinclair, Road March King Raheen “Mighty Hefe Junior” Frederick and Junior Calypso King Rumini “Young Calix” Rogers presided over the official symbolic opening of the gates to the Festival Village.
Revellers continued jamming to the sounds of the Respeck Band and enjoying the local cuisine provided by the many booth holders in the village for the rest of the night.
Attendance spoke for the preparedness of Carnival lovers for this year’s festival season.
