Stab victim stabilises as
police seek eyewitnesses
PHILIPSBURG--The victim of last Saturday’s stabbing is currently in “stable condition” at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) while police try to find more witnesses to the attack that almost took his life.
Police arrested a suspect outside the hospital just minutes after the victim was rushed to SMMC with “two very serious stab wounds” to his chest following the Last Lap Jump-up to end Carnival. A witness identified the man leaving the medical centre for treatment of wounds from an altercation as the stabber and police arrested him.
Police spokesman Chief Inspector Johan “Janchi” Leonard reported Tuesday that police were looking for more eyewitnesses to identify the suspect as the attacker. “We know there were people around when it happened and we are looking for them,” said Leonard, refusing to say exactly how the person who pointed out the stabber had known. Leonard said it was to protect the person and keep him/her out of danger.
The victim is in stable condition, but not out of danger, with doctors at SMMC keeping a close watch on him.
