PHILIPSBURG--Commissioner of Education Sarah Wescot-Williams made mention in the weekly Executive Council press briefing that the Executive Council had approved last week the continuation of payments for the Community Schools Project for 2008.
The amount involved in payments for the 2008 programme which started in January and rounds off in December amounts to NAf. 58,500 per month. The Community Schools Project is executed in the Ruby Labega School, Seventh Day Adventist School, Hillside Christian School, Methodist Agogic Centre and Sister Marie Laurence. In total, the programme caters to 500 children after school hours.
The Commissioner said the programme is the model chosen for local elementary schools and is much more than the provision of afternoon school activities, but rather a concept to incorporate the community and the schools.
