Government expected to give
clarity on Maria’s position

PHILIPSBURG--Commissioner of Constitutional Affairs Sarah Wescot-Williams is expected to make an announcement today, Wednesday concerning government’s position on Commissioner Maria Buncamper-Molanus’ resignation.

Reliable sources within government told The Daily Herald the Democratic Party (DP) political faction had discussed the Commissioner’s resignation, and what next step to take, last week Friday.

A consensus was reached within the political faction that although Buncamper-Molanus had tendered her resignation, she would stay on as a Commissioner. Therefore it can be expected that the Island Council will vote soon on the re-appointment of Buncamper-Molanus as Commissioner.

Whether she will keep the Telecommunication portfolio was also a topic of debate last week Friday. Information reaching The Daily Herald indicated that the portfolio had been offered to a different Commissioner who did not want to accept it.
