Sky is the Limit received at least
US $41,000 for Carnival activities
PHILIPSBURG--It seems rather strange to National Alliance (NA) leader William Marlin that one Commissioner’s foundation can receive US $25,000 from TelEm and another $16,000 from the Harbour Group of Companies to organise Carnival activities, while an organisation such as the Red Cross has to cry out in the media about not receiving assistance from government.
“Can’t these same Commissioners ask these same companies to give a donation to Red Cross to help out victims?” Marlin told a press conference on Thursday.
He pointed out that the core task of The Sky is the Limit Foundation of Commissioner Buncamper-Molanus and her spouse was not to organise Carnival. “We have a St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) that organises Carnival.”
Marlin said it raised questions, to say the least, that the foundation that promoted the political agenda of a politician/Commissioner could receive $41,000 from two government-owned companies to put on a show.
“We can say they didn’t steal the money and that it went to a good cause, but I’m sure that the SCDF cannot show they have received from the same government- owned companies the equivalent.”
He said this was not how government companies were supposed to operate.
