Dawn Beach homeowners to
meet on kidnapping of guard
DAWN BEACH--Dawn Beach Estate property owners will be reviewing the assault on and kidnapping of a security guard last week to gauge the residents’ feelings and to decide on future actions, representatives told The Daily Herald on Tuesday.
Dawn Beach Estate Lots Foundation President Corinna de Tullio intends to meet with Checkmate Security firm today, Wednesday, before discussing possibilities with the residents. The firm’s guard was struck on the head and forcibly removed from the premises in a failed robbery attempt.
The unnamed guard, who was attacked at his post at the entrance of Dawn Beach Estates, shackled with his own handcuffs, forced into a car and driven off the premises, was the first of two guards assaulted last week. According to unconfirmed reports, the four assailants tried to force him to give them information about the wealthiest property owners in the gated community. They abandoned their vehicle and the victim a few metres away from his post.
A construction site guard in Cole Bay was attacked about 20 hours later, with thieves stealing and later discarding his company’s radio. In both cases, the attackers had at least one handgun in their possession.
De Tullio, who was not on island when the incident occurred, was apprised of the attack on her return earlier this week and plans to meet residents before next week Monday. “We’re hoping to get everything cleared up by this weekend, because this is a very important matter,” she told this newspaper over the phone.
The foundation represents about 150 families living in the community, according to De Tullio.
