Five robberies
over two days

PHILIPSBURG--Five cases of robbery including seven victims were reported to police authorities between Monday and Tuesday. In one case, a man was caught in the act of robbery. This is according to a press report from Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Johan “Janchi” Leonard.

J.A.H was caught red handed on Monday morning around 5:00 by a security guard shortly after he had broken into Soggy Dollar Bar in Simpson Bay and attempted to flee with a bottle of Black Label Whisky and eight lighters.

The suspect was handed over to the police patrol and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station. All items were confiscated for further investigation. In the meantime, the Soggy Dollar Bar manager with the initials K.A.L. has filed an official complaint with the Detective Department.

A man, E.L., filed an official complaint with the Special Robbery Unit after three young men had attacked and robbed him, while he was at Belair Beach. The man reported that these young boys who had a pit-bull dog with them and geared with knives had covered their faces with their t-shirts while attacking him.

He said the suspects had threatened to use their knives if he did not cooperate. The suspects stole his cellular phone and took his rental jeep with license plate R-45.

The detectives are investigating this case.

Two females were also attacked and robbed on Monday at their home in Guana Bay. The women B.R. and N.B. from the Netherlands were tied-up with tape and ordered to sit on a sofa, while three persons, one armed with a silver coloured handgun searched the entire house and fled the house with a large amount of personal items, electrical items and cash. One of the suspects in connection with this case has been arrested and held for questioning. Detectives are investigating the matter, and more arrests are expected within short.

On Tuesday, a man L.L. filed an official complaint with the Detective Department, after three unknown black men attacked him around 7:00am and robbed him of all the money in his possession.

The man had reported that, while leaving his home in the Cole Bay area with his daughter, he was struck at the back of his head with a handgun by one of the three men. The robbers then demanded that L.L. hand over all his money, which he did, fearing that the suspects would cause harm to his daughter and himself. After committing this act, the suspects ran away from the scene.

A description of the suspects was given to the detectives, and an investigation is ongoing. Police are also investigating a case on Tuesday whereby two men G.G.P and H.D.H were robbed on Backstreet.

The two men filed an official report with the Detective Department stating that around 8:00am, while doing some work on Backstreet, they were suddenly attacked by two young men of dark complexion, each carrying a small calibre handgun.

Apparently, the young men threatened to use their weapons if the victims did cooperate. They demanded the victims to hand over their money, which they did. After committing this act, the robbers quickly fled the scene.
